If you're looking to get involved and give back to the caving community, come help clean up at a cave in Ringgold, GA. This cleanup is only for trash in the cave and not graffiti. The cave is a horizontal cave with 928 feet of passage, and nearly all of it has been littered by locals who have visited over the years which is a shame as it holds a lot of history and several historic signatures dating back to the 1800s. The new landowner, Eric, is very nice and extremely proud to have this cave on his property. In fact, he said it was one of the selling points, and I know he'd appreciate our help. His only request is that we sign a waiver before going into the cave.
The cave is mostly hands and knees crawling so come prepared with knee pads and elbow pads as well as your normal caving gear. For those of you who are new to this, you will need a helmet, a headlamp that can attach to your helmet, two other sources of light, extra batteries, sturdy shoes/boots, clothes you don't mind getting dirty, water, snacks, a bag, etc. Feel free to reach out if you are unsure of anything, and I will do my best to guide you in the right direction. We will meet at Ingles in Ringgold to carpool and caravan from there. Please arrive on time at 9:00 am eastern so we can get to his house and get started around 9:30.
